Janie from our New York office was in Chicago today to continue on a project that very rarely for me this year is going extremely well. She has alot to do with the success of the project. God bless you Janie. And kudos to me for coming up with the brilliant idea to use Janie on the project (actually it was Tom Jordan's idea that I fought against - but heck I am leaving J&J anyway - so I am going to take credit for having her participate in the project - what am I going to get fired over taking credit for her joining the project? Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah).
Anyway, she asked if I would consider voting for Senator Hillary Clinton in the 2008 presidential election now that my moderate Republican leanings have been clearly abandoned by the Republican Party. I told her I used to say I would vote for Hillary. This time I said it depends on who is running opposite her. If Senator John McCain was her opponent - I would probably vote for McCain. I haven't seen a Democratic or Republican potential candidate other than McCain that has Senator Clinton's skills, knowledge, intelligence, and dedication. She also has a builtin senior advisor whose presidency, though problematic, looks like a miracle of competency and good judgment as compared to the most recent administration even if you throw in the whole Monica Lewinsky episode. (How do you know when you are a sex addict? Just take a good look down. What is worse IEDs (improvised explosive devices) or IUDs? But, Shirley I digress).
So how would this middle aged, honkey-assed, moderate, centrist ex-Republican, mediocrity-mired (learned a new word Mediocrist - a mediocre person - hey I resemble this remark - I like this word - too bad I won't remember it tomorrow - but, Shirley I digress, again), newly declared independent voter vote in the next election?
I am going to write in the name of Professor David Gergen - the last of the great moderates. The guy came into the Nixon Whitehouse to protect the democracy and pick up the pieces. He then years later crossed party lines to help a Clinton Whitehouse that was clearly out of its depth when first taking office. Of course as he puts it he came in with Watergate and went out with Whitewater. Gergen appeared on the Colbert Report tonight on Comedy Central. What a refreshing television viewing experience hearing a voice of reason and moderation on the air and of course David Gergen was on the show with Steven Colbert as well.
Or I might vote for Hillary to piss off my conservative Republican friends. Look, after all it is much less of a wasted vote than voting for Bush or Kerry or Gore.
