Dilbert Cartoon on Petroleum Energy

My friend Phil sent along this link to a Dilbert cartoon about petroleum energy and the world markets. As someone who believes we all fund global terrorism every time we purchase gas and oil, I thought this was particularly to the point reminding me of how little impact we have in the grand scheme of things. With that said, from a stewardship perspective (or an enlightened self interest perspective for all you enlightened capitalists out there) I still think energy conservation and reduction in consumption levels in general are good for the soul and one's own security, not to mention one's pocket book. Hopefully Sonia and I will stay the course, as we debate hooking up to the power grid from our cabin, in utilizing renewable energy sources, solar and wind, after we sell the house in town and head out to the cabin in about a year and a half. Somehow apropos to this topic - we are having windows replaced today at the house in town - the old ones were vintage early 1970's - single pane, not weather sealed. Awwh - the good old days when energy was free and abundant. The new windows should reduce heating and cooling costs and they look a heckuvalot better as well. Regarding the cabin - there are actually two cabins on our property, the Steve and Linda Acciacca main cabin and a Jim and Sheila Carroll Retreat cabin. The retreat cabin is for guests - it is on a bluff with a westerly view of Lake Superior (sunset side of the Keweenaw Peninsula). Most weekends it goes unused. If anyone would like to come up for a visit - let us know. We ask that you do a small project to better the place in exchange for using the cabin - but we aren't very demanding in terms of what that small project needs to be.
